For the mission in Grand Theft Auto V, see Fire Truck (mission).
The Firetruck (or Fire Truck) is a firefighting apparatus appearing in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto Advance, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
The Fire Truck appears in every game throughout the Grand Theft Auto series, previously appearing in the 2D Universe and later returning in the HD Universe. It is the only vehicle in the entire series to appear in every GTA game.
Design[]
The Firetruck in the 3D Universe is typically based on North American Firetrucks, with certain differences:
- In Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the Firetruck is based on a Seagrave Marauder, and is shown with a relatively small capacity of two occupants and operating for the FDLC and FDVC. The front end features a large bumper with four lights on either side and a license plate in the center, followed by dual central grilles above. Beside the lower grille are two rectangular headlights and beside the upper one are the upper indicators and lower red emergency lights, while the upper area has a split windshield. The cab features two access doors, two tall compartments on the side and a light bar on the roof, while the rear section features large compartments on the sides and what looks like two emergency lights on top. The rear end has a single compartment door and square tail lights on the outer portions, as well as a license plate on the driver side and marker lights at the bottom. The truck only spawns in a red primary color with secondary-colored side stripes and the corresponding livery, including an optional identification number ranging between 1 and 6 (sometimes it may spawn without a number). Both the GTA Liberty City Stories and the GTA Vice City Stories renditions have a visible water cannon on the upper side, mounted behind the cab.
- In Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, the Firetruck assumes the same design as the previous model, but with distinctive details and operating for the FDVC. The front features red and white emergency lights below the indicators, while the section behind the cab has additional compartment doors on either side. The rear section appears to be narrower on the upper half and incorporates ladders and two lamps facing to either end (the left to the front and the right one to the rear), while the rear end has a smaller compartment door in the center. Again, the truck only spawns in a red primary color with a secondary-colored upper half of the cab and side stripes (the latter being straighter and spanning both ends), and the corresponding livery, including an optional identification number ranging between 1 and 6 (sometimes it may spawn without a number).
- In Grand Theft Auto Advance, the Fire Truck assumes a rather generic design, somewhat similar to the GTA III iteration, and operates for the FDLC. The cabin has two doors and a light bar on top, while the rear compartment features several compartments and another light bar on the rear. The truck is only seen in a red color and only bears the identification number 4 on the top of the rear compartment.
- In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the Fire Truck assumes a new model, resembling a KME Renegade, and operates for the Fire Department of San Andreas. This version features a larger front bumper with a circular preconnected hose in the center, amber lights beside it and a small vent/hole on the passenger side, while the area above features a single grille, dual headlights, emergency lights and a split windshield. The cabin features an extended compartment and silver door handles on either side (though there are no defined rear doors, thus being limited to carrying two people), while the roof features marker lights, a light bar and the water cannon. The rear section features pump panels with small lights behind the cabin, small compartment doors on either side and hard-suction pipes on either side, along with a ladder on the right side and rear-facing lights on top. On the rear end, the truck has open sections on the upper half and what looks like an amber traffic advisor bar in the middle, while the outer edges house the tail lights, the license plate on the driver side and marker lights at the bottom. The fuel cap can be seen on the lower left corner of the rear end. The vehicle only spawns in a red primary color and white secondary color for the side stripes and upper half of the cab, and may have an identification number, which are 16, 47 and 64 (sometimes spawn without a number).
Performance[]
The Firetruck can reach high speeds and has good acceleration; however, the resulting lack of traction in such a heavy vehicle makes it susceptible to oversteer and spinning. It also has no ABS system installed, so one cannot turn while braking. Because the Firetruck is very heavy and has a high top speed, the driver has to plan when to brake, otherwise it is easy to crash and possibly get stuck since it is very bulky. Like Police Cars and Ambulances, it is equipped with sirens that make traffic move out of the way. Its hose can be used to spray pedestrians, knocking them down. The player can also activate Firefighter missions from within the Firetruck.
Firetrucks also have lots of hitting power. They can send smaller vehicles flying and will make short work of getting through Enforcer barricades. Most other vehicles can also be pushed out of the way by the Firetruck.
The Firetruck is powered by a diesel engine located at the front, mated to a five-speed gearbox in a FR layout. It uses the traditional diesel sound from most industrial trucks, such as the Packer and the Linerunner.

Locations[]
The Firetruck will be dispatched to fires caused by the player in all games.
As well as being readily available via dispatch, the Firetruck will spawn outside almost all fire stations in each game:
Grand Theft Auto III, Advance and Liberty City Stories[]
- Fire station in Harwood, Portland, Liberty City.
- Fire station in Belleville Park, Liberty City.
- One Fire Truck spawns at the fire station (GTA III only).
- Two Fire Trucks spawn at the fire station. The one on the right can be used to trigger the Firefighter side-mission and the other one on the left automatically triggers the Karmageddon side-mission after finishing the mission of the same name (GTA Liberty City Stories only).
- Fire station in Francis International Airport, Shoreside Vale, Liberty City.
- Often spawns at Fort Staunton after completing 'Bringing the House Down' (GTA Liberty City Stories only).
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Vice City Stories[]
- Fire station in Downtown, Vice City.
- Fire station within the southern tarmac of Escobar International Airport, Vice City (GTA Vice City Stories only).
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]
- Fire station in Commerce, Los Santos.
- Fire station in Doherty, San Fierro (Occasionally the ladder variant will spawn here).
- Fire station between Redsands East and Redsands West, Las Venturas.
Prominent Appearances in Gameplay[]
Firefighter Mission[]
Main article: Firefighter
The Firetruck can be used to activate the Firefighter side mission in all 3D Universe games. The mission requires the player to find and extinguish burning vehicles within a time limit.
Grand Theft Auto III[]
- Import/Export - the Firetruck is one of the 23 vehicles wanted for the Portland portion of the Import/Export side mission.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]
- Demolition Man - a Firetruck will respond to the explosion and arrive at the scene of disaster.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories[]
- L.C. Confidential - a Firetruck, along with a FBI Cruiser, a Securicar and three police cars can be found in a crime scene on an overpass of Newport.
- Karmageddon - the player is required to drive a Fire Truck causing as much havoc as possible then destroy the Fire Truck. After the mission the Karmageddon side mission is available by hoping inside the left Fire Truck at the Belleville Park Station, Staunton Island.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories[]
- Hose the Hoes - the player is required to steal a Firetruck and save the prostitutes from a burning Prostitution Empire Building by using the water cannon to extinguish the flames.
Oversights[]
- Unlike most emergency vehicles, the rear license plate on the Fire Truck in GTA San Andreas does not state the city where the vehicle comes from.
- Spraying police officers with water using the hose will not give a wanted level, they will just get up and keep walking as if nothing happened.
- Pedestrians will ignore getting sprayed too, they will not run away in fear or get angry at the player after they sprayed them. In addition hostile pedestrians will lose their hostility when sprayed at.

Trivia[]
- Firetrucks from GTA III to GTA Liberty City Stories have the phrase "Putting out since 1872" written on the doors of the cab. This is another one of Rockstar's sex jokes/references.
