The Vapid Speedo Custom is a custom van in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the After Hours update.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The vehicle is a modifiable variant of the Speedo, sharing the same profile and layout. The van received various changes in comparison to the regular model, where the front bumper features a shinier, chromed finish around the lower half and a singular flat meshed grille in place of the horizontal grille (likely to make room for the grille plating from the armor upgrades), while the hood assumes a bulkier appearance around the center. On the sides, the arches, particularly the rear ones, are extended and more defined, while the front quarter panels have vented sections with three horizontal chrome separations on them. The rear end of the van retains most of the features from the regular model, but the whole rear bumper has a shinier, chromed finish. The interior appears to be the same as the regular model, but the rear section and wheel wells are finished in a gray color instead of white. The vehicle can also be modified with an array of visual modifications, being armor plates, liveries and respray colors.
The primary color of the vehicle is applied to the entire body, while the secondary color is applied to the stripe passing around the sides and rear, just below the lower body line. It retains the same wheel design, being five-spoke angled rims with medium-profile tires.
The van can be equipped with either two front-facing machine guns, a remote machine gun turret resembling a Browning M2HB machine gun, or a remote minigun turret similar to a GAU-17/A gatling gun.

Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Vehicle[]
The Speedo Custom is overall superior to the original Speedo, with a slightly higher top speed and acceleration, together with better braking and handling overall. Still, the seeming lack of traction renders the van difficult to accelerate after being stopped, and the relatively light mass renders it unable to push other cars easily. The wedge provided by the "Heavy Armor Plating" upgrade allows the vehicle to push cars away slightly better, although it is still not very effective due to the light weight.
Like the regular Speedo, the vehicle is powered by a high-torque V8 diesel engine, with a 5-speed gearbox in a rear-wheel-drive layout. The engine sound is the same as the regular Speedo, the Clown Van and other similar vans.
Armor[]
Despite having three different levels of armor upgrades, none of them make the van any more durable, as the van will still explode with only a single explosive near the body, unless the player is in a Sell Goods mission, which gains increased resistance and immunity to missile lock-ons. However, the cabin has bullet-resistant windows similar to vehicles such as the Schafter V12 (Armored) and the Baller LE (Armored), giving the occupants slight protection against most firearms before being shattered.
The Speedo Custom can be equipped with additional Armor Plating that will primarily affect the windows. Adding any Armor Plating will take away the ability for occupants to use throwable weapons.
- The Light Armor Plating and Reinforced Riot Armor upgrades primarily seem to have only light cosmetic differences, such as thin bars around the windows, reinforced bumpers, side mesh screens and external frames on the roof.
- The Heavy Armor Plating upgrade adds plates that constricts the openings in the windows, making it harder for gunfire to get through. However, the player may be shot through the small gaps on the windshield plates, while the side window plates are not solid and do not offer protection at all. During a sell goods mission and with the 100% Armor upgrade, the Speedo Custom can withstand six RPGs or homing missiles (a seventh rocket will destroy the vehicle).
Weaponry[]
The Speedo Custom has access to an array of weapons operated by the driver:
- Machine Gun: the first option is a set of two front-facing machine guns, which perform similarly to those from vehicles such as the Blazer Aqua and the Ruiner 2000, albeit with a slightly increased damage (30, compared to the 20 damage from the aforementioned vehicles) and a lower fire rate (1,000 rounds per minute, compared to the 1,200 rounds per minute on the aforementioned vehicles). They have decent firepower against players and vehicles with none or light armor, but will struggle against heavily-armored vehicles.
- Remote .50 Cal: the second option is a remote .50 caliber machine gun turret, which works identically to the one found on the TM-02 Khanjali and has similar statistics to .50 cal MG turrets found on vehicles such as the Insurgent Pick-Up, the Armored Boxville and the Menacer.
- Remote Minigun: the third option is a remote minigun turret, which works identically to the dual swiveling miniguns from the Weaponized Tampa and has similar statistics to Minigun turrets found on vehicles such as the Valkyrie, the Turreted Limo and the aforementioned Weaponized Tampa, with triple the fire rate (1200 RPM, compared to the .50 Cal's fire rate of 410 RPM) but lower damage (30, compared to the .50 Cal's damage of 175), thus offering only roughly 60% of the DPS (damage per second) that the Remote .50 Cal dishes out. The Minigun is also able to destroy vehicles instantly upon being damaged enough, while the Remote .50 Cal turret can only set them aflame and requires additional rounds to finally destroy it.
- The vehicle has the option of installing Proximity Mines, which behave the same as any remote explosive and are operated by the driver. These mines are a bit stronger than their hand-held counterparts and are also limited to five active mines. Caution should be taken when using them, as they can potentially damage or destroy the vehicle.
Note that, while both remote turrets have a limited elevation angle of about 20 degrees, the Remote .50 Cal is able to aim up to 55 degrees with the "Hood view" enabled, making it deadly against targets almost above the van.

Bugs/Glitches[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- If both Heavy Armor Plating and Proximity Mines were equipped, it would disable the ability to place proximity mines.
- By performing all the steps using customization options, then exiting the vehicle while spamming any console home button, the Speedo Custom may render itself in an indestructible state where the vehicle cannot explode or receive knockback from the Up-n-Atomizer.
- This has been patched through background updates in the San Andreas Mercenaries update.[10]
- This bug was briefly restored with The Chop Shop update, but has been patched again through a background update on January 10, 2024.[11]
- This has been patched through background updates in the San Andreas Mercenaries update.[10]
- When using one of the remote guns while the camera stays behind a thin obstacle (such as a light pole) and the reticle is aligned to the same, the rounds will impact the same obstacle.
