The West River Park is an unnamed park in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars located in Middle Park West, Algonquin.

Description[]

Although the park is unnamed, it is relatively well decorated and detailed and usually heavily populated by pedestrians and patrolled by LCPD officers.

The park is located in the west of the Middle Park West neighborhood, between the eastern bank of the West River and Ivy Drive South. Union Drive West bisects the park with a pedestrian overpass over the freeway connecting the two sections.

It is a long park taking up several blocks, with the riverside promenade section stretching from Nickel Street to parallel with Silicon Street, south of the Hickey Bridge. The eastern section is shorter, stretching from Obsidian Street, north of the Randolf Art Center, to Ruby Street.

Riverside Section[]

It can be accessed from Union Drive West at both the north and south ends.

Starting at a skate park at the south end, it is a long tree-lined waterfront bi-level promenade, with a gravel path and low brick wall on the east side through a grassed area and a fully paved pathway along the river bank with regular park benches and planter boxes between the trees. Multiple street art and food vendors occupy the riverbank area and there are life preservers regularly spaced along the fence. There are interactive binoculars mounted along the water's edge, looking across the West River to Alderney City.

The overpass ramp is near the center of the promenade. Stairways just south of the overpass (above the Booth Tunnel) and at the far north end near the Hickey Bridge lead down the bank to the water for boat access and there is also a wood and steel jetty about three quarters of the way north.

At the north end, there is a small circular garden where NPCs can sometimes be seen doing pilates.

Eastern Section[]

It can be accessed from the west section by the pedestrian overpass, or from the south by stairs leading down from the art center, as well as a northern entrance on Ruby Street, and on Ivy Drive South opposite the end of Pyrite Street.

The prominent feature is a large pillared memorial building with plaques reading "WE LOVE TO FIGHT", as well as sculptures of eagles. South and north of the building are walkways within a grassed section, with trees lining the sides. At the eastern entrance, several painting vendors and chairs are found.

Influence[]

The park appears to be based on the Riverside Park and Hudson River Greenway in Upper West Side, Manhattan, with the memorial building based on the General Grant National Memorial south of the Claremont Playground.
