Time to go to work, CJ, and earn your freedom. There's a guy holed up across town. You got that address, Pulaski? Another gangbanging, drug-pushing, cop-killing bitch, just like you. We don't like him and he don't like us. Now you make sure he never leaves the neighborhood - not even in a box.

Burning Desire is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by C.R.A.S.H. officers Frank Tenpenny, Eddie Pulaski and Jimmy Hernandez from the Jim's Sticky Ring doughnut shop in Market, Los Santos, San Andreas.

Description[]

Carl enters the doughnut shop and is spotted by Frank Tenpenny, who tells him to come and sit with them. Tenpenny and Pulaski act with hostility towards Carl, with Tenpenny reminding him that C.R.A.S.H. owns him. Tenpenny then informs Carl of a 'gangbanging, drug-pushing, cop-killing bitch' holed up in a building in East Los Santos that doesn't like them. Tenpenny tells Carl that he wants the gangster dead.

Carl first heads to an alleyway in Downtown to collect some molotov cocktails that C.R.A.S.H. had left for him, before heading over to the building in East Los Santos. Carl kills the Los Santos Vagos gangsters surrounding the building and then throws molotov cocktails into five windows around the building. The 'holed up' man, a member of the Los Santos Vagos runs out of the building, being badly burnt by the flames, he quickly dies from his injuries.

Carl then hears a girl trapped inside. To rescue her, Carl enters the building and gets to the upstairs bedroom she is trapped inside. Then using a fire extinguisher obtained from the kitchen, he extinguishes the flames blocking their path, helping the girl escape the crumbling building. The girl graciously thanks Carl, and asks him to bring her to her house. Once there, she introduces herself as Denise Robinson, and both of them agree to go on a date in the distant future.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Tenpenny has hidden some molotovs in an alleyway in Downtonwn Los Santos. Pick them up.
  • You've got molotovs. Go to the gang house and torch it.
  • Torch the house. Throw molotovs into the 5 downstairs windows - that'll make it burn.
  • There are some molotovs nearby. (if the player wastes all molotovs.)
  • You've trapped a girl inside the burning building. You'll have to save her.
  • Take the fire extinguisher upstairs and rescue the girl.
  • Drive the girl to her house.

Reward[]

There is no monetary reward for completing the mission, but the player can collect $1,000 inside the burning house, there is $500 next to the bed in the bedroom where Denise is waiting to be saved, and another $500 to be found in the living room on the ground floor. The missions Doberman and Gray Imports are unlocked. Denise becomes Carl's girlfriend.

Transcript
Carl enters the doughnut shop and encounters C.R.A.S.H. officers Frank Tenpenny, Eddie Pulaski, and Jimmy Hernandez.
Tenpenny: HEY! CARL JOHNSON! CJ!
CJ: Oh, shit...
Tenpenny: Come on over here, son! (to Hernandez) Move over, let him sit down, asshole!
CJ sits with them.
Tenpenny: So you finally found time to drop by.
CJ: Man, I've been busy. I've been burying my Moms, man.
Pulaski: Sounds like a fucking excuse to me.
Tenpenny: Officer Pulaski thinks you're trying to screw with us, Carl. Now you get this straight. We own you. You're ours. We can shit on you from such a height you'll think God himself has crapped on you. You understand?
Pulaski: He better fucking understand.
Tenpenny: Yeah, he better had. Time to go to work, CJ, and earn your freedom. There's a guy holed up across town. You got that address, Pulaski? (to CJ) Another gangbanging, drug-pushing, cop-killing bitch, just like you. We don't like him and he don't like us. Now you make sure he never leaves the neighbourhood - not even in a box. Now get the fuck outta here!
After CJ burns down the Vagos' house using molotovs, a girl is trapped the burning house.
Denise: (not in subtitles) Oh god! The flames! The flames!
CJ enters the house finds the girl.
CJ: You there, you OK?
Denise: Yeah, but those flames, they're too hot! I'm scared!
CJ: Hold on, there's probably a fire extinguisher in the kitchen! I'll be right back!
CJ gets the fire extinguisher from the kitchen and extinguishes the fire to rescue the girl.
CJ: Stand back!
Denise: Put it out! Put it out!
CJ extinguishes the fire.
Denise: Oh God, I'm so scared!
The building begins to collapse.
Denise: OHMYGOD, what was that?
CJ: Hey, the building's starting to collapse, we gotta get out of here, fast!
CJ finds more fire and begins to extinguish it.
Denise: Hurry up, put it out, put it out!
CJ continues to extinguish more fire.
Denise: Oh my God, we'll never escape!
CJ saves the girl and both get out of the house.
Denise: Hey, man, I owe you my life... (hugs CJ) I was nearly dead there, for sure!
CJ: Hey, you look pretty shook up, girl. You want me to take you home?
Denise: Yeah, please, thanks.
CJ and the girl get in a car and drive to the girl's house.
CJ: Where you live?
Denise: Just off Grove Street.
CJ: No shit! What you doing in Vagos' hood?
Denise: I like to live dangerously. You're CJ, right?
CJ: Yeah, how you know me?
Denise: Everybody in the Grove knows you and your brother, but I thought you'd run away.
CJ: I never 'ran away' OK, I just needed to... get away from shit.
They approach the girl's house.
Denise: This is my place, here!
They arrive at the house.
CJ: Hey, what's your name?
Denise: Denise. Denise Robinson. Give me a call sometime, we should go out, or something.
CJ: Yeah, I'd like that.
Denise: OK, I'll catch you later, CJ.

Trivia[]

  • If the player has no molotovs by the time they have to torch the house (by wasting them all), another 20 will spawn in front of the house, behind the tree, and 20 at the back of the house. They will respawn if the player loses all again.
  • While approaching the house, there is a Vagos member standing outside who appears to be talking on a cell phone. Upon closer inspection (using a camera or sniper rifle), the gang member is actually holding a pistol against his ear.
  • Even if Carl already has Molotov Cocktails in his inventory before starting the mission, the game will still force the player to collect them from the alleyway.
  • The interior of the doughnut shop says "Rusty Brown's Ring Donuts", even though the exterior of the building says "Jim's Sticky Ring". Further enforcing the original concept for Rusty Brown's Ring donuts being in GTA SA
  • A Police Car will always spawn outside the doughnut shop after the opening cutscene ends. This vehicle can be stolen without incurring a wanted level.
    • It's possible that the car is left by C.R.A.S.H. for CJ.
  • If the player fails the mission while inside the apartment without dying, Carl can be seen walking out of the house.
