The reward for completing this mission is an increase in respect. The mission Drive-Thru is also unlocked.

Tips
*Good weapons to use in this mission are either the shovel in Ryder's back garden or the chainsaw that can be found near the railway tracks.

*The player can also get a shotgun from running over the pizza shop cashier in the previous mission.

*If the player has enough respect they can recruit two gang members to aid Carl in the mission. However, for some unknown reason, the player is unable to recruit any gang members during the mission (even with the "Recruit Anyone" cheat activated), and they must be recruited before the mission starts.

* The mission takes place too early in the game for the player to have easy access to guns, but they can still be obtained. Beating up a gang member is the best available way to get a gun. A gun can be useful for this mission when the player is in the crack den as it will make fighting the Ballas much easier.

CJ! Go down there and show these fools you mean business! Those chumps from the Ballas are sweatin' the homies. Go put pressure on 'em.

Cleaning the Hood is a mission in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas given to protagonist Carl Johnson by Grove Street Families leader Sean "Sweet" Johnson from his home in Ganton, Los Santos, San Andreas.

The mission introduces the drugs aspect of the storyline, explaining how it has corrupted Los Santos.

Mission

Ryder, Big Smoke, and Sweet are inside Sweet's house, talking about the crack cocaine epidemic in the city as CJ arrives. After an argument, Ryder and CJ decide to take care of business and deal with some of the crack dealers that supply the Grove Street gang members. They first go to visit B Dup and Big Bear in Ganton Courts, as CJ wants to recruit some of his old friends.

Upon arriving, B-Dup angrily tells the two to stay away, with Big Bear working as his crack slave. Carl attempts to convince him to return to Grove Street but fails miserably. Ryder and Carl both leave and spot a crack dealer nearby selling drugs to Grove Street gang members. They kill him, and Ryder discovers the whereabouts of the dealer's home.

The pair then drive to Idlewood Projects, entering the crack den and killing every Ballas gang member inside. After finishing off everybody, they head back to Ganton.

Mission Objectives

In order to complete the mission the player must:

 • Go to B Dup's crib.
 • Go beat up the crack dealer.
 • Go to the dealer's place.
 • Go beat up the crack dealer.
 • Go back to Sweet's house.

Reward

The reward for completing this mission is an increase in respect. The mission Drive-Thru is also unlocked.

Sweet, Ryder and Big Smoke are sat talking to each other in Sweet's House.
Big Smoke: Hey, you gotta keep it real, man.
Sweet: Man, nobody give a shit about the hood.
Big Smoke: I do!
Sweet: All they do is sell yay and ruin the place. No crack ever made a gang tight.
Big Smoke: I don't know man.
Carl Johnson enters the room.
CJ: Whassup, y'all?
Sweet: What's up CJ?
Ryder: What's crackin'?
Sweet: Man, all they care about is smoking and money.
Big Smoke: You can't knock a homie's hustle, Sweet.
Sweet: Them marks ain't soldiers. They're idiots trying to be business men.
Big Smoke: Yeah, but they're down with us, man.
Sweet: All they down with is money. CJ, go down there and show these fools you mean business. This chump from the Ballas is sweating the homies. Go put pressure on them. Just do it.
CJ: We been putting time in the hood but we gotta get the homies back together. Like the old days.
Ryder: Yeah.
Sweet: Yeah, you right! So you and Ryder go handle your business! Man, they'd slang to their own momma. They don't care about nothing.
Big Smoke: You're naive, my friend. We gotta keep our focus.
CJ and Ryder leave Sweet's House.
CJ: We need some back up, you seen B Dup?
Ryder: Nah, but him and the home boy Bear, they'd be good to have on our side.
CJ: Oh! Big Bear? Yeah, them base slangers going to be sorry now.
Ryder: Hey, B-Dup is only a couple of blocks away.
CJ and Ryder go to B Dup's Apartment.
CJ: The hood's all messed up, huh?
Ryder: Yeah, you try to get any of these crack heads to help you out.
CJ: No wonder the the Families ain't up on it.
Ryder: Apart from Smoke, Sweet, and you know, yours truly, Grove Street don't bang no more.
CJ: Yeah, just get blow.
Ryder: For sure.
CJ and Ryder enter B-Dup's apartment block.
Ryder: Hey, slow down, fool. You don't even know which door it is.
CJ: Whatever, man. This it?
Ryder: Yeah, this it right here.
CJ: (knocks) Open up! You sure he still live here?
Ryder: Fool, I told you, this it.
CJ: (knocks) Open up!
B-Dup: Who the fuck is it? CJ? What the fuck you want? Get the fuck outta here.
CJ: Wait, hold up man! What happened to "4 life, ni**a"?
B-Dup: The only that matters is the hood, homie, but you'll never understand what getting this money is like. You know what, man? Get the fuck outta here before you be laying on your back. Big Bear, come check this fool.
CJ: Hey, Bear? Big Bear, that's you? Hey, you still from the hood, homie, or what?
B-Dup: Nah, the only thing Bear give a fuck about is smoking and keeping my house clean. Ain't that right, Big Bear?
Big Bear: Hell yeah.
B-Dup: Hell yeah what?
Big Bear: Hell yeah, sir!
B-Dup: Now go make that motherfucking toilet sparkle.
Ryder: Oh no, man.
CJ: No man, Bear, come on!
Big Bear: Everyone likes to party sometimes, CJ. I'll see you around.
B-Dup: Stay the fuck from around here...punk!
CJ: Hey, ni**a, fuck you!
CJ and Ryder leave the apartment block.
Ryder: Damn...this shit's fucked up.
CJ: I see what you mean now, man. If crack can do that to Big Bear, turn him into a base slave, the average motherfucker ain't got a chance.
Ryder: Damn dope fiends and drug addicts everywhere in this city. Piss me off.
CJ: Look like it's up to us then.
CJ and Ryder leave B-Dup's house.
Ryder: Let's just cruise through the hood and find us somebody selling.
CJ and Ryder drive around the block and find a GSF member buying from a crack dealer.
Ryder: Hey, check it out! Somebody's selling to one of the homies.
Crack Dealer: Hey partner I'm working man, what you need, what you need dog? Dog, I got quality shit right here.
CJ and Ryder kill the crack dealer.
Ryder: Man, I know this cat! He's a punk, used to run with a Front Yard Balla OG from Idlewood. I know his place, it's just across the tracks there. Let's check it out.
CJ: Hey, ain't that Front Yard turf?
Ryder: Man, are you a busta?
CJ: No, I'm down homie.
CJ stamps on the dealer's head, making him drop his Baseball Bat, then he and Ryder head to the Crack Den.
Ryder: Hey, grab hold of that bat over there.
CJ: Man, we're on a serious mission now.
Ryder: Man, don't sweat it homie, everybody in the hood knows Ballas are pussies.
CJ and Ryder arrive at the Crack Den.
Ryder: Oo-ee! Man, you can smell a crack den a mile away!
CJ: Yeah, let's shoot through and introduce ourselves.
CJ and Ryder enter the crack den to find Ballas and prostitutes laying around.
Ryder: Good afternoon, Balla dope pushers! Grove Street OG's come to do damage!
Ryder hits one of the Ballas gang members on drugs.
Crack Dealer: Fuck them Grove Street fools!
Ballas member: Grove Street's going down!
Ryder: Ninja these motherfuckers!
CJ and Ryder defeat the crack heads and leave the den. They set off back to Grove Street.
CJ: Now Ballas know Grove Street Families on their way back up.
Ryder: For sure, homie and what's more, you didn't even run out on me. Time's changing...
CJ: Aw man, they gonna be mad at us.
Ryder: Man, I'll warn the gang later. For now, let's just bask in the silence of victory, motherfucker.
CJ and Ryder return to Grove Street.
Ryder: Now that the base ain't getting pushed up in their faces, maybe these fools should be up for some real banging.
CJ: Yeah, Grove gonna get back on it's feet now for sure though.
Ryder: Later, homie.
