A white Buccaneer with a black vinyl roof and its driver-side door open can be seen parked on the double yellow centerlines of a road near an intersection in the Crosstown neighborhood of Vice City, behind a white Cypher and Dominator ASP, in the first trailer (0:45). The vehicle's custom lowrider variant also appeared in the first trailer.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Grand Theft Auto IV rendition of the Buccaneer continues to resemble the 1970–1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo, much like its Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas rendition, although it has lost much of its fastback profile, with a roofline closer to the third-generation Monte Carlo. The front end looks closer to that of the 1971–1972 Chevrolet Caprice, however, with the grille reminiscent of the 1976 Monte Carlo. The 5-mph front bumper featured on the Buccaneer, although similar to other cars from that time, mostly resembles the one found on the Lincoln Continental Mark IV, however with additional lights, similar to 1970–1974 Continentals. The rear fascia, although retaining the bumper and details from the GTA San Andreas rendition, seems to now take some clues from the 1969 Cadillac de Ville, the 1961–1969 Continental, and the 1976–1978 Chrysler New Yorker.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Grand Theft Auto V and Online iteration of the Buccaneer strongly resembles the 1963–1965 Buick Riviera in body style and front, specifically the 1965 model, due to its stacked headlights, which were unique to that year. The rear, particularly the taillights and the black center tailpanel between them, takes significant cues from the 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. It also appears to draw moderate inspiration from the first generation Pontiac Grand Prix for its headlights and front bumper, the 1966 Buick Riviera GS for the grille unit, and the 1967 Pontiac LeMans for the vinyl roof and hood. The lower rocker panel, with its ribbed chrome finish, is reminiscent of the 1966 Ford Fairlane.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Buccaneer shares some similarities with the 3D rendition of the Tampa, and also the GTA IV rendition of the Emperor. The car is always set to spawn in a single-tone color, and various chrome details can be seen on it, namely the sides and around the windows.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars[]
The Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars rendition of the Buccaneer for the most part largely retains its design from GTA IV, although with subtle similarities to its GTA San Andreas rendition. It is, however, shorter than both of its previous renditions. Its wide headlights echo the double headlights of the GTA IV rendition.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Buccaneer's design is changed completely from GTA IV, featuring an older appearance with a raised rear suspension, giving it a dragster-like style. The front of the car is predominated by the split grille in the center, with the stacked circular headlights located on the outer edges and surrounded by chrome details and located in black housings. A chrome bumper spans the width of the car and follows the curvature of the outer edges.
On the sides, chrome details can be seen on the wheel arches and the bottom of the sides and rear, as well as classic circular mirrors near the cabin's A-pillars, also finished in chrome. The cabin is mostly covered by a soft top, featuring chrome trims around the windows.
The rear of the car features square, concave-folded tail lights and inner reverse lights, with a black matte strip running along the back of the trunk connecting the two and surrounded in chrome. The trunk displays the car's name with chrome letterings embossed above the black strip, and a rear bumper covers the width of the car and also follows the curvature of the outer edges.
The primary color of the car is applied on the upper half, while the secondary color is applied on the lower half. The stock wheels are identical to the "Dukes" rims also available at Los Santos Customs, although it gives the wheel color a darker tone.

The Buccaneer is a fairly heavy car, needing a large V8 to lug around its portly weight, however its cornering is acceptable at low speeds. Its back end is prone to fishtailing when cornering at high speeds. Its top speed is relatively low.

Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The Buccaneer, despite being a heavy personal luxury car, possesses one of the highest speeds of all the cars in the Muscle class, reaching about 110 mph on the first person speedometers. This is not a very big advantage however, as muscle cars such as the Dominator and Dukes are marginally slower. Braking is acceptable, but nothing too spectacular or noteworthy. Having a decently powerful V8 under the hood, acceleration is average, achieving 60 mph in the 5 second range. GTA V's Buccaneer sports '440 GT' badges, suggesting that the engine has a displacement of 440 cubic inches (7.2 litres). The Buccaneer is able to go through most corners without spinning out, and oversteer is quite minimal, which is surprising for a vehicle of its size and weight. Overall the Buccaneer is a solid muscle car, where despite having a high top speed in its class, the rest of the car is common within the category.

- In Grand Theft Auto IV. a Buccaneer is requested as part of Stevie's Car Thefts, with a uniquely candy maroon and black body color. As a new Buccaneer will respawn at the same spot until the player delivers one to S&M Auto Sales, the player can save one at their safehouse before delivering another.
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
- There are unique non-gang modified variants that can be found in El Burro Heights at the bus junkyard on the corner of South Shambles Street and Hanger Way, most often at night. These share the same upgrades as the gang variants but with different paint. The non-gang modified variants feature unique worn Olive Green paint with Lime Green pearlescent paint, Dark Green secondary paint, and a unique wheel color not available in Los Santos Customs, Beeker's Garage or any other vehicle mod shop. Similar non-gang modified variants of the Manana, Peyote, and Tornado can be found parked at the same bus junkyard as well as in front of Olson's Autos on El Rancho Boulevard in Cypress Flats, most often during the day.

The same applies for the GTA Online Protagonist, although care must be taken as players may sometimes get a bounty if stealing a Families' Buccaneer. The gang variant of the Buccaneer in GTA Online nets the players $9,875 in Los Santos Customs upon selling it.

- The name "Bucanneer", seen when the player enters the vehicle, is clearly a typographical error — the name is spelled correctly on the rear of the car, in Stevie's text message requesting the car, and within game files. Its misspelled name appears to be only present in earlier installments of the game, as in Episodes from Liberty City, the name is spelled correctly.
- Despite being manufactured by Albany, the steering wheel bears a Declasse emblem.
