Brian Baird was a programmer for DMA Design until circa 1999.
Career[]
Baird worked as a programmer on Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 before leaving DMA Design to work on video game series based on The Terminator and Star Wars. He now works as a gameplay programmer for Bethesda Softworks.
Baird was interviewed by GamesRadar in 2017 regarding the development of the original Grand Theft Auto. He said "If we'd stuck to the original design, GTA would have flopped. The scale of the missions was very small, with the design being a series of short, sharp five-minute missions, returning to a mission select screen in between. Originally the player started as a delivery boy and worked his way up to the top. We quickly found it wasn't fun delivering pizzas."[1]
