For the multiplayer mission in Grand Theft Auto IV, see Bomb Da Base II.

Okay, let's do this thing! I can set this baby to detonate, but I still can't use a piece with these hands. Here, this rifle should help you pop some heads!
8-Ball

Bomb Da Base: Act II is a mission in Grand Theft Auto III given to protagonist Claude by explosives expert 8-Ball from his shop in Harwood, Portland, Liberty City.

Description

8-Ball, knowing about the meeting after a phone call from Salvatore Leone, tells Claude that he needs $100,000 for the explosives and tells Claude to return when he has the money. After obtaining the necessary money, Claude returns to 8-Ball's and the two head to Portland Harbor. 8-Ball gives Claude a sniper rifle since his hands are still too badly injured to use a weapon himself. After arriving at Portland Harbor, Claude gets a good vantage point and begins to kill the Colombian Cartel gang members guarding the Les Cargo container ship, with 8-Ball planting the explosives. He detonates the explosives, getting off the ship's bridge just before it sinks.

Reward

The reward for completing this mission is $150,000 and the mission Last Requests is unlocked.

Transcript

Transcript
Claude goes to see 8-Ball at his bomb shop in Harwood under Salvatore Leone's orders and knocks on his door. 8-Ball answers the door.
8-Ball: Yo, my man! Salvatore phoned ahead, but a job like this is gonna need a lot of fireworks. I'll need $100,000 to cover expenses, but you know with me, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Come back, brother, when you have the money.
Once Claude has more than $100,000 in the bank, he goes to see 8-Ball again.
8-Ball: Okay, let's do this thing! I can set this baby to detonate, but I still can't use a piece with these hands. Here, this rifle should help you pop some heads!
8-Ball hands Claude a Sniper Rifle while he gets a box full of explosives, then they both head to the Les Cargo ship in Portland Harbor.
8-Ball: Get a good vantage point, then I'll head in when you fire the first shot.
The Les Cargo ship has several Colombian Cartel members aboard it, and a few guarding the wooden staircase. Claude picks a vantage point and snipes the Cartel members, letting 8-Ball get inside the ship and arm the explosives. Moments later, 8-Ball is seen frantically running as the ship starts to explode, and soon after 8-Ball runs down the staircase, it falls over as the ship sinks into the ocean.

Trivia

  • The container ship used by the Colombian Cartel shares the same textures as a ship in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, docked in Viceport.
  • If the player is on the ship when it explodes then the player will not die, instead, they will reappear back on land, but the Cartel Cruisers are gone.
  • The player will still get the cutscene that shows 8-Ball telling Claude that he needs $100,000 even if they already have the money.
  • A ship very similar to the one destroyed in this mission can be seen in GTA IV, as a deteriorated wreck located off the west coast of Acter Industrial Park.
  • The mission is somewhat similar to the Freighter Approach of The Merryweather Heist in Grand Theft Auto V, wherein the protagonist (Claude/Franklin) uses a sniper rifle to give assistance and eliminate enemies in order for another character (8-Ball/Michael) to plant bomb(s) and sink a cargo ship.
  • This is the only time the Cartel Cruiser appears in Portland (excluding Firefighter and Vigilante missions.)
