This subpage documents removed, unused and changed characters (pedestrians and cutscene models) during the development of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Removed Characters[]
Mr. Moffat[]
The only leftover of this character is unused phone call dialogue between him and Tommy left in the american.gxt
file, with no audio files available.[note 1]
[MOB13_A] Vercetti? VERCETTI!! Damn you man, you've got to help me! [MOB13_B] Mr. Moffat? How's family life? [MOB13_C] Damn you to hell, HELL, do hear me?! [MOB13_D] Well it was nice chatting... [MOB13_E] WAIT! Wait, Vercetti - Tommy, can I call you Tommy? [MOB13_F] We're both businessmen, yeah? You know a good deal when you hear one, ok? [MOB13_G] I don't have time to chat, get to the point. [MOB13_H] MONEY. Money is the goddamned point. [MOB13_I] I've escaped the coop again, but it's never long before they track me down - they think it's a damned game! [MOB13_J] I'm at a pay phone somewhere in this god forsaken shit hole. [MOB13_K] Get me out of here before they take me back and...and..oh go-o-od... [MOB13_L] Well, I'm busy for the next - [MOB13_M] No! Don't shit with me here, have a heart! No man should have to do such, such things. [MOB13_N] I'm on my knees here Tommy, in the dirt begging you please... [MOB13_O] I guess I could swing by that way, see if I can spot you... [MOB13_P] Oh god, they're coming. For the love of Christ hurry, hurry!
Unused Characters[]
Alex Shrub "Martha" Cutscene Model[]
Unused cutscene model CSAlscb
of Alex Shrub, crossdressing as "Martha". The in-game pedestrian version of the model is used in Martha's Mug Shot. The cutscene model is seen in a promotional screenshot of BJ Smith during The Party.
The model was replaced by an alternative cutscene model CSAlsb2
of the character with his clothes on. Leftovers of this change can still be found in the script file for the mission.[1]
Female Shooter[]
Unused cutscene model shootra
for the second cutscene of The Shootist, intended to appear alongside the other male shooter at the shooting range scene.[2] She is a scaled down BFYSTR
pedestrian model.
Female Pedestrian[]
Unused female pedestrian cutscene model "CSDisp
".
Cutscene Filler[]
Literal filler character "CSFiller
", meant to be placed in the background of cutscenes. Uses the appearance of the generic Hispanic Male Old Street "HMOST
" pedestrian.
This cutscene model has a duplicate used for a named character Pablo ("CSPablo
") in Umberto Robina mission cutscenes.
Placeholder Cutscene Models[]
Lots of placeholder models for motion capture cutscenes intended for existing characters (including Cougar, Zeppelin and the Love Fist Groupies), but using Kent Paul, Ken Rosenberg and Colonel Cortez' model as placeholders.
This might explain why the "Porn Guy" character ("mporna
") appears as Colonel Cortez in the polaroids found inside Vercetti Estate, implying that Cortez' model was once used as a placeholder for "mporna
".

Changed Characters[]
Original Sketches[]
Original character sketches shared on Rockstar Newswire after the release of the 10th Anniversary edition of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for mobile devices.
Tommy Vercetti[]
Tommy Vercetti's character model, particularly his head, was changed from how it was originally depicted in promotional screenshots. His head model used a different facial structure, similar to the one later used by Leo Teal in the final version.
Ken Rosenberg[]
An early character model and texture of Ken Rosenberg can be found in the PC version files.
Kent Paul[]
An early character model of Kent Paul can be found in the PC version files. The texture container for the model uses Kent Paul's final version textures, resulting in a badly mapped texture on its model.
Lance Vance[]
An early character model of Lance Vance ("buddy
") can be found in the PC version. The texture container for the model uses Lance's final version textures, resulting in a badly mapped texture on its model.
Additionally, the game includes an unused cutscene model "CSLance
" with wrong texture mapping (teeth textures on his shoulders).
Haitians[]
The "Relax" shirt logo on the second Haitian gang member "Hnb
" (Haitian B) was originally an image of Uncle Sam's famous "I Want You" poster, previously used on billboards in Grand Theft Auto III.
Streetwannabe's[]
A third Streetwannabe's gang member is seen in an early GameInformer Magazine screenshot[vague]. In the final version, the third gang member "Sgc
" (Street Gangster C) is used as a mission-only gang boss for the gang, with a different appearance.
SWAT[]
The SWAT team used a different body model and textures.
Pedestrians[]
WMYCST[]
Unused alternative version of the HFYCG
female pedestrian, erroneously labelled as a male pedestrian in its abbreviated file name. The image used for the "HFYCG
" texture is still named WMYCST
in the game files.
WFYG1[]
The "White Female Young Groupie 1" ("WFYG1
") pedestrian appearing as one of the Love Fist Groupies had a complete redesign prior to the original release. Her original model can be spotted during the opening credits at the Malibu Club. She is identified as being the WFYG1
pedestrian through an early footage of The Party used in the second trailer of the game.
The model and textures for the second groupie were slightly altered between the original PlayStation 2 release (v1.40) and later releases.
Unidentified Male Pedestrians[]
Two male pedestrians in promotional material that cannot be identified.
Character Names[]
- Juan Cortez's title was a General instead of a Colonel, as evidenced by how his missions are labelled in the game's text files.
- Avery Carrington was originally named Sergio. His missions are still labelled with the "SERG" prefix in the game's text files.
- Ricardo Diaz was originally named Fernando Diaz in the early character sketches.
- Lance Vance and Victor Vance were simply codenamed The Buddy and The Dealer respectively, before their names were decided.
Other[]
- The real-life Shining Path Rebels (real-life communist guerilla group from Peru) has been originally suggested to appear as enemies in All Hands On Deck! instead of the French Secret Service (DGSE).[3]

- ↑ A fan-made prisoner model from this unreleased "beta" modification is erroneously referred to as being Mr. Moffat. In reality, Mr. Moffat's character model has never existed in any release of the game.
