This article or section contains information on Grand Theft Auto beta content. It may feature speculation and/or unintentional misinformation.
Please add references when adding content to this page. Any speculative/misinformed content that is not verified should be discussed on the talk page.
This is not to be confused with Deleted Content which refers to content that was in the final release of the game but some time after.

Beta content refers to any content that was planned or due to appear in a Grand Theft Auto game but removed from the final release.

The Grand Theft Auto series has become renowned for much of its beta content as well as the content seen in final releases. Such beta content can include everything from character designs, missions, map areas, vehicles, weapons, dialogue, and even mechanics that developers initially intended to include but ultimately decided to cut or change. The reasons for these cuts can range from technical limitations, time constraints, balancing issues, or shifts in the game's direction.

Beta content is usually discovered through the use of third-party tools such as OpenIV and CodeWalker, although a whole host of content is seen in promotional material, such as pre-release screenshots, trailers and other mediums.

Race'n'Chase concept artwork

Perhaps most notable is the original concept for the Grand Theft Auto series as a whole. Before the release of the first Grand Theft Auto game, the game's concept was primarily centralised around cops and robbers (leading to the final name of the first game and series as a whole) and would allow the player to choose between playing as either a cop or robber, in what was then known as Race'n'Chase.

The final game itself also sees a whole host of beta or otherwise unused content. From cut vehicles such as the Helicopter, SWAT Van and APC, to the cut Petrol Bomb. Numerous changes to existing content were also made, including the voice artist used for The Fergus Buckner Show FM's Fergus Buckner, and cut objectives for the mission Heist Almighty - Porka Turbo.
