The Republic of Belarus, commonly known simply as Belarus, is a country located in Eastern Europe. It is one of 44 landlocked countries. It is bordered by Russia to the east, Latvia to the north, Lithuania and Poland to the west, and Ukraine to the south.
Between 1922 and 1991, Belarus was part of the Soviet Union and known as Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic (Byelorussian SSR, BSSR or simply Soviet Belarus).
