The Chinatown Branch of Bank of Liberty is the largest Bank of Liberty branch appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV, Episodes from Liberty City and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It is located on the northeast corner of Columbus Avenue and Calcium Street, directly across from the Denver Avenue Building, in Chinatown, Algonquin, Liberty City. The bank is notable for its robbery perpetrated by the Irish mob in 2008 in Grand Theft Auto IV.

Description[]

The bank is only accessible in Three Leaf Clover, in which the entrance doors are wide open. The doors lead to an antechamber containing six ATM machines. The antechamber leads to a sumptuous main lobby, with one standalone ATM, where the vault door is found. Beyond the vault door is a stairway clad in marble that descends into preliminary storage rooms enclosed by reinforced steel gates. These lead to a vault room that contains safe deposit boxes (SDBs), a pair of safes, and a shelf that contains bank records.

Influence[]

The building is a rendition of the HSBC Bank[1] at 150 Canal Street, New York, U.S.A.

Architecture[]

The building, designed in the Beaux-Arts style, is notable for its rusticated ground floor and enormous semicircular windows on the west and south elevations. It also features an impressive glass dome.

Events of Grand Theft Auto IV[]

The bank is robbed by Niko Bellic and the McReary brothers in Three Leaf Clover. Amid the robbery, Michael Keane is shot dead by Eugene Reaper, a customer, who is in turn shot dead by the crew. In spite of this, Derrick McReary proceeds to destroy the vault door with C4, and Niko Bellic penetrates a vault engulfed in flames to retrieve the money. He comes back to the lobby carrying two duffel bags containing the cash, and the crew make their way to the front entrance to discover a swarm of police officers and NOOSE agents in front of the building. A bloody shootout ensues before the men decide to contour the building via an alleyway that runs along the northern elevation and flee the area.
