If bringing down two criminal masterminds in a towering high-rise just in time to spend the holidays with your loved ones is on your festive list, good news!”
The unnamed Bank Robbers are minor characters in Grand Theft Auto Online, appearing in the Los Santos Drug Wars update as part of Festive Surprise 2022.
History[]
Events of Grand Theft Auto Online[]
Players could encounter the three robbers on the roof of the Weazel Plaza between 8pm and 6am during the 2022 Festive Surprise event. They are involved in a shootout with LSPD in a Police Maverick. Killing the main robber provided rewards including his WM 29 Pistol, a festive livery for the Pistol Mk II and $25,000 cash from his wallet.
Character[]
Appearance[]
There are three robbers. Two of them are new character models[1] and the third re-uses a generic leader of The Lost MC.
Robber 1[]
The first one is a European male with tidy light brown hair and trimmed beard. He is well-dressed, wearing a business suit and red tie, with gold-rimmed octagonal sunglasses and brown leather shoes.
Robber 2[]
The second one is a European male with longer platinum blonde hair and a trimmed goatee. He is dressed more casually in a zipped up dark grey sweater with sleeves pulled up, over a t-shirt with light grey track pants and black sneakers. He wears distinctive red-framed glasses.
Robber 3[]
A heavy-set male with short-cropped dark hair and facial stubble and facial injuries around his eyes, particularly the left. He is wearing his default outfit, one of the few that has no visible MC club patches, with a dark blue shirt and faded jeans and boots. He lacks the usually seen[2] wraparound sunglasses and piercings of the model.
Influence[]
Two of the characters are clearly inspired by the 1988 Christmas action movie Die Hard, with the Newswire and Entry Screen descriptions clearly referencing key plot points.
The two referred to as the "criminal masterminds" are likenesses of key characters Hans Gruber and Karl Vreski, the latter wearing Tony Vreski's glasses.
The seemingly superfluous third character seems to be a stand-in for John McClane with the specific injury to his left eye, replicating McClane's injury seen in the movie. Publicity material uses a GTA Online Protagonist dressed more closely like McClane in a white singlet top and holding a Pistol MK II which more accurately represents that character though.
Weapons[]
The WM 29 Pistol collected from the Hans Gruber lookalike is based on Gruber's preferred weapon in the film, the Heckler & Koch P7M13, while the Karl Vreski lookalike uses the Military Rifle, which is based on the Steyr AUG, the same rifle that the Karl character uses in the movie.
The "Season's Greetings" livery, another reward during the event, is unlocked for the Pistol Mk II. This is a reference to the Beretta 92F used by John McClane in the movie as the Pistol Mk II is primarily based on the Beretta 92.
