Avalon is a neighborhood of Downtown District, Anywhere City, in Grand Theft Auto 2.

Description[]

It contains the Jesus Saves Church, where the player experiences the Tutorial, and it serves as the first location in the game. Although it is located in the Downtown District, this neighborhood is not governed or controlled by any particular gang. Notably, Avalon has a strange square shape. It has limitations with:

  • Machine Gun - Ledge north of the Avalon police station, accessible with a stunt jump.
  • Silenced S-Uzi Machine Gun - Hospital roof, accessible jumping from the building west of it.
  • Silenced S-Uzi Machine Gun - Small garden north of Avalon Station.
  • Flamethrower - Ledge north of the Avalon police station, accessible with a stunt jump.
  • Flamethrower - Church east of the Shiroto car shop.
  • Rocket Launcher - North of the cathedral, close to the cemetery.
  • Rocket Launcher - Roof of the building west of the hospital west of Avalon Station, accessible from some stairs on its west side.

  • Fast Reload - The road on the north side of the cathedral must be followed westwards. Soon it will turn south, but there's an alley on the west wall at that point, where the power-up is located.
  • Double Damage - Middle of the square west of the cathedral.
  • Invulnerability - South of the Fruitbat Police Station.

Trivia[]

  • In a Pre-relase Demo/Beta version of the game, Avalon was originally known as the Civic Center. In a Gamestar Test video for GTA 2 (dated September 1999, one month prior to the game's release date), the Church was also absent, although its parking lot was still present. [1]
  • The neighborhood is likely named after the city of Avalon in the California Channel Islands, Los Angeles County.
