You're a strange man. You killed your best friend. You betrayed everyone who ever came in contact with you. You killed my cousin. I guess... the survival of the fittest thing really meant a lot to you.

A Revenger's Tragedy is the final storyline mission in Grand Theft Auto IV, if the "Deal" ending was chosen.

Description[]

Little Jacob is waiting for Niko in the Cognoscenti in Alderney and Niko gets inside. He tells Niko that he finds someone sitting inside a sports car, which is identified as Pegorino's men who can lead Niko and Jacob to Pegorino's location. Niko then gives chase to the car and he soon finds an abandoned casino where Pegorino and another person are in.

Walkthrough[]

Getting inside the car[]

Get to Jacob's car in Alderney. He is nearby the Koresh Square Building in Alderney in a Cognoscenti peering at a mysterious car nearby. It seems that the car belongs to Pegorino's men, who flee the area in efforts to lose Jacob and Niko.

Car chase[]

Make a T-Turn to begin the pursuit (go in reverse with the stick full right; wait for front end to swing around; throw into forward with stick full left; brake when the car has turned back to the opposite direction the player has started in). There will be an immediate tight right turn onto the Plumbers Skyway that should be notified. The Cognoscenti has a relatively fast speed, but it steers and brakes poorly. Chase after Pegorino's goons. They will mainly follow the highway, and swerve in and out of both lanes. Watch out for other cars heading the other direction. Do not waste time firing on the car, simply concentrate on making it safely to the finish of the chase. After a few minutes, the chase will end in northern Alderney near an abandoned casino close to Leftwood. Be especially careful not to roll the car, which is easy to do in a couple of the tight turns the chase will take.

A cutscene shows Niko's car sliding to the side and stopping. Niko and Jacob get out, take out their weapons and gain cover behind the car; gunshots come towards them. Jacob insists on helping Niko kill his enemies, however Niko insists to do it alone "for Roman" and instructs Jacob to stay on the low until Niko really needs his help. Jacob runs away as fast as he can and leaves Niko to exterminate Dimitri and Pegorino.

Casino[]

Dimitri is in the old casino. The player has to wipe out the surrounding goons before finding him inside the casino. This is a standard shootout although the enemies do have some heavy weaponry. Don't worry about chasing Dimitri yet, just get rid of his men. Eventually, a cutscene will play as Niko follows Dimitri's tracks; Dimitri betrays Pegorino and executes him. Dimitri escapes to the roof and runs to a helipad. The player must shoot more of Dimitri's men and chase him. Dimitri then gets into a helicopter and prepares to leave. Niko can go down the ladder or run quickly which triggers an additional cutscene.

If Niko chooses to go to the chopper which is suddenly flying away, he attempts to grab hold of the skids, but one of Dimitri's men stomps on Niko's hands, sending him falling into the water next to a nearby boat, which is a hint that Niko must pursue him on the water.

Boat chase[]

Board the boat quickly and move away from the casino as fast as possible. A rocket fired from Dimitri's helicopter will be heard near Niko's boat. If the player doesn't take actions properly while inside the boat, Niko will be killed or the boat will the destroyed, both of them will cause the failures of the mission.

Take control of the boat and carefully chase Rascalov's helicopter down the West River until Jacob's Annihilator flies into the scene. Chase Jacob's helicopter and get under it to climb on.

Helicopter chase[]

Work on the way onto the helicopter and take the steering. If the player hasn't commandeered an Annihilator before, it should be advised that the controls are much more sensitive than the Mavericks owned by Brucie and Helitours-used small movements. Fly after Dimitri's helicopter, but do not use the mounted miniguns as the game prompts. This is just wasting time since Dimitri's helicopter has infinite health and it's also a bad idea because risks of getting hit by the rocket launcher's missile exist. Just as in the road chase in Alderney, focus on completing the air pursuit safely. Gaining as much altitude as possible might help the player to continuously keep track of Dmitri's chopper. Hitting at even one of Algonquin's tall buildings will cause the mission to fail.

One of Dimitri's men fires a Rocket Launcher at Niko. Jacob responds with shots from his carbine. Eventually, Jacob damages Dimitri's helicopter and sets it ablaze, shortly before Niko's copter is hit with a Missile as well. Both choppers crash on Happiness Island with Niko, Jacob, and Dimitri's goons narrowly surviving.

Killing Dimitri[]

Find Dimitri and empty every bullet into him, for Niko, and for Roman, and he will go down in no time with powerful weapons such as the Carbine Rifle or Assault Rifle. Watch for his henchmen and the police. Once successfully shot down, a cutscene will play showing Dimitri dying of his wounds. Niko angrily reminds Dimitri of his traitorous nature, how he killed his best friend, on how he betrayed everyone who had ever came into contact for himself and that he killed his cousin. He then guesses that "the survival of the fittest thing" really meant a lot to him. Dimitri then dies of his wounds. Jacob arrives just in time to see Dimitri's death and tells Niko it's time to go. Niko sadly explains that Roman never hurt anyone, while Jacob acknowledges Niko's sadness and explains that it's over and he won. Then they both walk away leaving Dimitri's dead body at the foot of the Statue of Happiness.

The body has been identified as that of Dimitri Rascalov, a businessman based in Hove Beach. Police have long believed him to be at the forefront of the new wave of immigrant led organized crime."

Transcript[]

A Revenger's Tragedy Transcript
Some time after the events of Mr. & Mrs. Bellic, Niko gets a phone call from Little Jacob. Niko can also call Jacob to start this mission.
Little Jacob: Niko, I found one of Jimmy Pegorino's boys inna some building in Koresh Square, ya know. See after dat heroin deal, Dimitri's hangin out wit Pegorino now. I tink dis boy gonna lead me to right where Jimmy and Dimitri dere.
Niko: Wait for me, I'm on my way. We will do this for Roman.
Little Jacob: Seen. One love, Niko.
Niko travels to Koresh Square, where Jacob is waiting in a car. As Niko approaches the car, Jacob will say one of the following:
Little Jacob: Come on me breda, get inna the car.
Get in, Niko.
Niko, get inna the car.
Niko gets into the driver's seat of the car.
Little Jacob: Alright, me breda. That blood clot is inna de place dere right now. I been following him for some time. Me tink his next step is with Pegorino and Dimitri. We follow him there, seen?
Niko: Thank you, Jacob. I know you cared for Roman, but he was my family. You do not have to do this.
Little Jacob: Roman was my boy ya know. I doin' this for him.
Two goons are seen leaving the building.
Little Jacob: Rhaatid, there's Pegorino's boy. Ya have fe stick with him, bredren.
Meanwhile, the goons enter a Huntley Sport parked nearby.
Goon 1: Fuck, we got a tail. Better lose this piece of shit on the way back to the Peg. I don't wanna be late.
The goons leave and shoot at Niko's car. Niko gives chase.

Niko: How you know he's going back to Pegorino and Dimitri? Why would he lead us back to them?
Little Jacob: Dimitri and Pegorino, they be pon top after that deal, ya know. They got de coil and de brown, didn't dey? Dem ras clots tink dem are de dons of dons. There ain't no way those boys gonna be scared of some boys like I and I following their boy, ya know. Also, dey ain't going to know their boy at the wedding didn't do his job properly. They tink ya dead, ya know.
Niko: If Dimitri and Pegorino are so on top, why would they care about me? Why would they bother to send a hitman to the wedding?
Little Jacob: Me tink dem be afraid of ya, ya know, me breda. Dimitri tinks dat you forget about what happen on the docks ya know, in Broker. Him screw ya over after ya kill Faustin for him.
Niko: I did not forget this, but I let it slide in the interest of business. Sending an assassin after me and killing Roman on his wedding day, this is something I will not ignore.
Little Jacob: True me breda, true. I ain't gwan fe let it go neither.
They pass Acter Industrial Park
Niko: I just want to drive this scum off of the road and smash his brain out on the concrete.
Little Jacob: We not angry at him, ya know, Niko. It's di people he's working for, seen? We haffi get to dem, so we haffi follow dem bumbaclot, seen?
Niko: Yeah, I understand. I get it. I just need those bastards to know and understand what they did to me.
Little Jacob: Me wanna get dem bumbaclot dem too, ya know. Dem boy dey no right ya know, come inna church and some kill a man pon him wedding day. Jah know, it ain't right.
Niko: Dimitri and Pegorino will find this out as well. They will find it out when they stare down the barrel of my gun.
Little Jacob: Yo Niko, ya need fe lose some of dis anger, ya know, before ya go after dem boy dere. Ya mind be clouded and ya don't be able fe tink clearly, ya know. Ya want some weed?
Niko: I do not need any marijuana, Jacob. I can think clearly enough.
Little Jacob: Alright, Niko, man. Alright.
Niko: I came to this city wanting revenge. I let that desire build up inside of me for many years. I let it eat out everything good in me. It took me over. I cannot allow that to happen again, not to me, not to Mallorie and everyone who loved Roman. We must find Dimitri and Pegorino and end all this.
They drive through Leftwood
Little Jacob: Ya man, we getting closer. Me hear from me source dat Pegorino might be inna di north of Alderney.
Niko: Okay, this is good news. I do not know how much of this driving I can continue to do.
Little Jacob: I an' I gwan find dem, we going to find dem and take dem out, for real, dat's what we doing for Roman.
Niko: Roman brought me to this city and I was nothing but a curse to him. He was beaten because of me, he was shot, his business and his home were burnt down, he was kidnapped. I should have known that the lives of those close to me would be destroyed.
Little Jacob: I don't tink you have a choice about dat, ya know, Niko. Roman loved you. No matter what he was gonna get close to ya. Because before you come, all him a do is talk about him cousin Niko. If you didn't wanna come up here, he was gonna go to Europe and drag you pon a boat. That's just the way Roman was. Don't ever forget him, seen?
Niko: No, I will not forget him. Nor will I let these men forget him

Niko: Alright, so this guy is taking us to his bosses. We cannot kill him yet then. I guess I'll just have to pass the time by thinking about how much I'm going to punish these scum.
Little Jacob: Just be calm now, rasta. Just make sure ya don't lose dat blood clot. Tink bout how ya gwan mash dem up when time ya find out which part dem a hide.
Niko: I must think of something.
Little Jacob: Seen. Just tink how you gwan bust these bitches dem up.
Niko: I can't believe I did that deal with Dimitri. How could I trust him? I'm a fool. I thought the money would help Roman and the people I loved.
Little Jacob: A leopard don't change him spots, ya know, Niko. A man stab you inna de back once, him gonna keep stabbing until di job is done, seen?
Niko: I have finally learned this lesson. It has taken the death of my cousin, but it is something I must accept.
They pass Acter Industrial Park
Niko: Come on! Why does this take so long? Where are these idiots hiding out?
Little Jacob: Easy Niko, just be cool now. Pegorino and Dimitri be splitting up de large amount of money what dem get from de business deal. Everybody in Liberty City know dat, so dem after de money too. So dem man dem haffi hide out for real.
Niko: They could not hide anywhere that would keep me away from them. To get them back for what they have done, I would look for them in every corner of the earth.
Little Jacob: Roman was a good man, ya know. He had a righteous heart, ya know, star. Jah know him in a better place now.
Niko: Roman should be in his marriage bed. He was a good man. No matter what happened to him, he would never be angry or upset for more than a minute. If there was any way I could change my actions so that he would not die, I would do it. I would sacrifice anything.
Little Jacob: What's done is done, and dere ain't no way to change what happen earlier.
Niko: You are right, but we can change what is about to happen. We can make sure that Roman's life is not the only one that is lost today.
Little Jacob: Seen, we just need fe stay on dis bumbaclot and we'll be able to mash dem up real good.
Niko: I'm doing my best.
They drive through Leftwood
Niko: Are we getting near to them or is this man taking us on a tour around Alderney?
Little Jacob: I can tell him getting nervous, ya know, Niko. His driving different. We must be getting close.
Niko: He has reason to be nervous. The man who will kill his employer is following him.
Little Jacob: Yo Niko, Dimitri and Pegorino gwan have mad firepower pon di ground, ya know. Dis ain't gon' be easy. De boy leading us back because him tink him boys gwan fe tear us to pieces and ting.
Niko: Well then I am looking forward to disappointing his expectations.
Little Jacob: Me understand ya know, rasta. It's a good ting dat blood clot don't know you as good as I and I know ya, ya know. If he did, ya know, say him boss don' have long fe live 'pon this earth.
Niko: I had the opportunity to settle my score with Dimitri the other day but chose not to take it. Instead I did a business deal that led to Roman getting killed. Had I got rid of Dimitri then, the bloodshed would have ended.
Little Jacob: Dere no guarantee you gonna make it, bredren. I and I don't know what our actions can do and ting. Anyting coulda happen if you kill Dimitri pon dat day dere.
Niko: Yes, but the chances of my cousin being dead would be much slimmer. Roman was a gambler; he would have liked those odds.

Failures during the chase

Jacob, driving his Huntley Sport, pulls up across the street from the Alderney Safehouse.
Little Jacob: Dis a black day, me breda, it's a black day.
Niko exits the vehicle.

Niko drives back to Alderney City.
Little Jacob: I'm gwan find Dimitri and Pegorino. We gwan make 'em pay for Roman.
Niko: I hope so. I see you later.
Jacob exits the car.

If the chase is successful, Niko will drive along the shoreline, stopping under a bridge, drifting the car with the driver side facing an area in front of an abandoned casino. There, hired goons start shooting at the car. Niko gets out, slides across the hood, and takes cover along with Jacob.
Little Jacob: Alright, dis be de place, ya know, bredren. What's the plan?
Niko: I have to do this alone, Jacob.
Little Jacob: There be nuff blood clots inna de place ya know, that's suicide.
Niko: Roman was my cousin and I cannot put anyone else at risk. If you want to help me, find a way for us to make a swift exit when these men are dead. Goodbye, Jacob.
Little Jacob: One love, rasta.
Jacob leaves. Niko is left alone to fight the goons. When he gets near the entrance to the casino (or on its roof), Jacob sends Niko a text message.
Little Jacob: (text message) I got an escape plan for you, star. Keep your eyes on the sky, sight?
After killing all the enemies inside the casino, Niko finds Pegorino and Dimitri. Dimitri is holding Pegorino at gunpoint.
Pegorino: Dimitri, what's the problem? Me and you is partners now. We're back on top.
Dimitri: I didn't work this hard to share the spoils of a victory. Goodbye.
Dimitri shoots Pegorino, killing him.
Niko: Dimitri, you and me is gonna end this.
Dimitri runs toward the roof, saying one of the following.
Dimitri: I do not regret sending that man for you.
You will fall too, someone will take you down!
I should have killed you in Hove Beach.
Optionally, Niko can shoot Pegorino's body.
Niko: This is for Roman.
Niko follows Dimitri to the roof.
Dimitri: Поймай эту свинью балтийскую![1]
Dimitri: Убей этот кусок говна.
Dimitri: Чего ты ждешь? Убей его!
Dimitri: Почему это говно еще дышит?
Dimitri: Kill him! Kill him! Kill him! How is he still alive? Kill him!
Dimitri boards a helicopter. As it takes off, Niko grabs onto one of its skids.
Niko: You're not getting away, Dimitri.
One of the goons on board stomps on Niko's arm as the helicopter flies over the water, causing Niko to fall.
Niko: Dammit.
After falling into the water, Niko boards a nearby speedboat. Alternatively, Niko can avoid the roof battle altogether by going back through the casino to get to the boat. In this case, Dimitri's helicopter takes off as Niko approaches it.
Niko: I'll fucking get you. Mark my words.
Niko: You're going to wish your pussy hitman killed me and not Roman.
Niko: You snake, Dimitri...
Niko: Roman, man, I'll get him for you.
Niko: You'll stop running one day, Dimitri.
Niko: You're going to have to land sometime, Dimitri.
Niko: Fight me like a man. Come on.
Niko: My cousin was all I had in this city. Shit!
Eventually, another helicopter comes into view.
Little Jacob: Niko, mek we get dis ras clot. Get under me chopper and jump on.
Niko navigates the boat under Jacob's helicopter and grabs one of its skids. He climbs aboard the helicopter and takes over the controls.

Niko: I'm going to catch Dimitri and end this for good.
Little Jacob: Did you get Pegorino back at de place, bredren?
Niko: Dimitri saved me the trouble. He stabbed Pegorino in the back, just like he did to everyone he has worked with while I have known him.
Little Jacob: No matter what you say about dat murderer, he's consistent. He's consistently fucking anybody him can.
Niko: Now, it stops.
Little Jacob: Don't worry, rasta I gwan shoot him out de blood clot sky. He ain't going to be able to talk his way outta dis.
Niko: You were there when Dimitri first wronged me. If we had got him then, Roman would still be alive. Things would be good.
Little Jacob: Dat was a long time ago, ya know, king. Dere ain't no promise dat life would be any different from now, ya know. All we can be tinking about is taking dat ras clot down, and stopping him from hurting anyone else. Seen? Dey say a dying animal is de most dangerous inna de jungle, ya know, cousin. So, ya better be careful.
Niko: That is the plan, Jacob. I will put a bullet in his heart for every life he ruined, for every agreement he went back on, for every friend he betrayed.
Little Jacob: Dat be a whole heap of teeth, ya know, Niko. I don't tink we have enough ammo fe shoot him dat many times, ya know.
Niko: Perhaps one bullet in his brain will have to do then.
Little Jacob: Seen.

Little Jacob: Who dat inna de helicopter? Did Dimitri and Pegorino both leave when you get inna de ground?
Niko: No, Dimitri killed Pegorino when I arrived. I don't think he likes to share.
Little Jacob: A snake always be a snake, ya know rasta. Dimitri woulda steal from him own mother fe get ahead, ya know.
Niko: I think he probably did. We'd have to go to Russia to find out though. Maybe we should go with Dimitri's body. Bury him in his homeland.
Little Jacob: Cha! A burial be too good for that bumbaclot, ya know. He ain't worth putting inna di ground, ya know, star. We leave him out for de dogs and crows.
Niko: We catch him, then we kill him, then we decide what to do with the body. How's that sound, Jacob?
Little Jacob: Ya man ya man. How'de ginnal get away from you anyway, Niko? Me tink ya get dat boy for sure.
Niko: He had many men there. Both Russians and Pegorino's men. I had to fight through a lot of people to get to Dimitri.
Little Jacob: Seen Niko, a whole heap of bodies left inna dat place dere, ya know? Ya a real lion for real, ya know, star? Jah know not many man could a got through dem boys, ya know, star. Ya a real badman for real, real badman!

Failures during the chase

Niko's helicopter lands at the Alderney Heliport.
Little Jacob: I'm gwan find Dimitri and Pegorino. We gwan make 'em pay for Roman.
Niko: I hope so. I see you later.
Niko exits the helicoper.

As they fly over southern Algonquin, Dimitri's helicopter starts to smoke.
Niko: Good shooting, Jacob.
A moment later an RPG is fired from Dimitri's helicopter. It is scripted to hit Niko's helicopter, so it may be seen taking an odd turn toward it.
Little Jacob: We shot, dis ain't good.
We going down, we going down.
Shit, we're shot.
Lord protect us. We shot and ting.
Someone protect us.
The two helicopters approach Happiness Island.
Niko: Hold on.
The helicopters land on opposite sides of Happiness Island. Everyone on both helicopers exit. Dimitri heads for the Statue of Happiness.
Little Jacob: Mek we finish him.
Niko: Let me go alone. I want some personal time with Dimitri.
Niko chases Dimitri toward the Statue of Happiness.
Dimitri: You're a piece of Balkan shit.
Dimitri: I should have killed you in Hove Beach.
Dimitri: If only I'd let Faustin kill you.
Dimitri: You and your stupid cousin is always going to be bums.
Dimitri: You're a Balkan peasant. You're worth nothing.
Dimitri: I knew you were nothing from the moment I saw you.
Dimitri: You will fall too. Someone will take you down.
Dimitri: I do not regret sending that man for you.
Dimitri: I wish you had died along with your cousin.
Dimitri: I laughed when I heard that Roman was dead.
Niko approaches Dimitri, who is bloodied and groaning in pain. Niko is holding an assault rifle.
Niko: Welcome to America.
Dimitri: Черт тебя мать... хуй маржой.
Niko: Speak English.
Dimitri coughs up blood as he crawls on the ground.
Niko: You're a strange man.
Dimitri collapses to the ground, dying.
Niko: You killed your best friend. You betrayed everyone who ever came in contact with you. You killed my cousin! I guess the "survival of the fittest" thing really meant a lot to you.
Jacob approaches Niko.
Little Jacob: Come on Niko man. Get out of here. Let's go. Come on!
Niko doesn't move.
Little Jacob: Wha gwan? Come on. Let's go!
Niko: Roman... never hurt... anyone.
Jacob puts a hand of reassurance on Niko's shoulder.
Little Jacob: I know. I know. Let's go, man. It's over. You won.
The scene transitions to the Statue of Happiness. The camera pans upward to show the statue overlooking the city. Fade to black. The Credits Roll. Following the credits...
Niko: So this is what the dream feels like. This is the victory we longed for.
STORY COMPLETE. We return to free roam, with Niko on Happiness Island.
Post-Mission Phone Calls
Mallorie Bardas-Bellic
Niko: Mallorie, the man who got Roman killed is dead.
Mallorie: That won't bring him back, will it? He'll never even meet his son.
Niko: Son?
Mallorie: I'm pregnant. We were going to say something at the reception.
Niko: Your child will never worry about anything, Mallorie.
Mallorie: Thank you, Niko. I know you're trying, but a child without a father has a lot to worry about. Trust me on that one.
Kate McReary
Kate: Niko, I heard about your cousin. Niko, I am so sorry...
Niko: So am I.
Kate: If you want to talk about it, if you want anything, Niko. If you just want company, call me.
Niko: I want Roman back.
Kate: Don't let this ruin you, Niko. Don't let this make you even more insular and angry. Please, call me and we can do something.
Niko: I might do that. There are more important things to be doing now though.
Brucie Kibbutz
Brucie: I can't believe it, man. He's gone, he's fucking gone. Chubby man has left us. Fuck.
Niko: He didn't leave us, Brucie. He was taken away and he ain't coming back.
Brucie: And on his fucking wedding day, man. I learned so much from him man, about life and shit, important stuff like that, you know? It's so wrong, so fucking wrong.
Niko: I know, Brucie. Believe me, I know. Later on.

Trivia[]

  • Multiple factors hint towards the Deal ending as the "wrong" outcome of Grand Theft Auto IV.
    • In The Ballad of Gay Tony, Bulgarin's deputy Timur says, "Now that Rascalov is dead, we have sole claim to the junk." He is referring to the fact that after Dimitri was killed by Niko on the Platypus in the "Revenge" ending, the goods are picked up by the Bulgarin gang, while in this ending, the goods are sold, which does not match the plot of The Ballad of Gay Tony.
    • The "Deal" choice goes against Niko's morals. This is further proven by Niko himself in the "Revenge" choice, while confronting Dimitri Rascalov at the Platypus in A Dish Served Cold, where Niko claims he would have never chosen to work with Dimitri again.
    • There is symbolism in the final cutscene of each finale regarding the Statue of Happiness, with the "Deal" ending showing the back side of the statue during a thunderstorm and the "Revenge" ending showing the front of the statue in sunny weather.
    • Roman Bellic's taxi business appears to still be active after 2008. His taxi depot is repaired in 2009 during the events of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and is referred to as "Roman's Taxi Service" by Tavell Clinton in a 2013 Lifeinvader post in Grand Theft Auto V.
      • However, in a Rockstar Newswire Q&A post, Rockstar Games stated that "there are no true paths" in the story and "it's all down to the individual who plays him". [2]
  • The dialogue between Niko and Dimitri during the final cutscene is a recall to Niko's arrival in America during the first storyline mission The Cousins Bellic.
    • During The Cousins Bellic, Niko is greeted by Roman with "Welcome to America", to which Niko responds by speaking in Serbian and Roman suggests him to speak English.
    • During A Revenger's Tragedy, Niko tells Dimitri "Welcome to America" after defeating him, to which Dimitri curses at him in Russian and Niko responds with "Speak English."
  • The name of the mission is a reference to the early 17th century play The Revenger's Tragedy, attributed to Thomas Middleton. The plot also shares some similarities with this mission, as it revolves around the protagonist seeking revenge for the death of his fiancé.
  • During the first half of this mission, the weather is sunlight, but after Dimitri kills Pegorino, it changes to rain, presumably to create the somber tone of avenging Roman.
    • In the beta, the mission entirely remained in sunlight.
  • Jacob is still wearing the clothes he wore for the wedding.
  • The Huntley Sport that Pegorino's goons are in can be blown up with Packie's bomb, after the player calls it. The bomb will go off after a certain amount of time and this will fail the mission.
  • Dwayne's backup cannot be called to help with the shootout at the casino.
  • Niko cannot date Kate after she calls and says she will be there for Niko, but Niko replies that he will need some time.
  • Jacob, Dimitri, and Niko all mention Mikhail Faustin. Jacob mentions Niko killing Faustin during the car chase. Dimitri shouts "If only I'd let Faustin kill you!" and Niko reminds Dimitri (as he's dying) that he killed his best friend.
  • This is one of only two missions in GTA IV, (the other being the other final mission, Out of Commission) that has a checkpoint where the player is able to restart the mission from the cutscene that shows Niko getting out of the car. However, if the mission is failed too many times, then it will restart from the beginning.
  • The last missile fired by Dimitri's henchmen is scripted to hit the Annihilator.
  • Dimitri's Maverick will always catch fire, even if the player deals no damage to it.
  • The Annihilator is special in which it has a missing tail blade. This also occurs in Out of Commission.
  • Niko will sometimes die after falling from the helicopter into the water.
  • After getting into the boat, an RPG will sometimes hit Niko.
  • When Niko is trying to board Jacob's Annihliator, it will sometimes hit a wave causing the arrow prompt to disappear, and resulting in mission failure (no longer a way to board the helicopter).
  • Niko's Squalo will always blow up once he jumps onto the Annihilator.
  • On the roof of the casino, Dimitri calls Niko a "Baltic swine" (свинья балтийская) in Russian. This is a mistake in the game, as Niko is from the Balkans, and indeed the English subtitles read "Balkan swine" instead.

References[]

  1. This is an error in translation. "свинью балтийскую" means Baltic swine, not Balkan.
  2. ...we really don’t have a straight and true path for how the Niko ‘character’ would react in life or death situations – it’s all down to the individual who plays him.
