"Gangster Friday" (más néven "Grand Theft Auto" és "Joyride") a GTA sorozathoz írt eredeti témazene.
A számot a Rockstar egyik zeneszerzője, Craig Conner írta, tipikus "gengszter rap" stílusban. A szöveg autólopásról, drogozásról, törvénykerülésről, fegyverhasználatról szól. Conner játszotta fel az összes hangszert a zenéhez.
A szám először a Grand Theft Auto 1-ben jelent meg, ahol egy kitalált banda, a Slumpussy játsza, és mindig ez a szám szól a játék elindításakor.[1]
A Grand Theft Auto III-ban is hallható a Lips 106 rádión, de itt már "Grand Theft Auto" a szám címe és az előadó is más: a szintén fiktív Da Shootaz, akiknek a rappere Robert DeNegro (egyéltelmű utalás Robert De Nirora, akik sok gangszerfilmben játszott, melyek a GTA III-at is ihlették). A szövegben két helyen előforduló "fuck" szót kicenzúrázták a "Lips" és "106" bemondásokkal.[2]
A szám nyitó motívuma több helyen is visszatér a sorozatban:
- A GTA III-ban a játékos csipogója ezt játsza kicsit lebutítva.[3]
- A Grand Theft Auto: Vice City indításakor is hallható, stílusosan Commodore 64 játssza (0:33-nál) [4]
- A Grand Theft Auto IV-ben a GTA III-as csipogó hangját csengőhangkét lehet használni a játékos Mobiltelefonján ("Pager" csengőhang)[5]
