Tausta
Lance T. Vance syntyi joskus vuosien 1954-1958 välillä valkoiselle äidilleen (Janet Vancelle) ja nimeämättömälle isälle. Hän ja hänen kaksi veljestä, Victor ja Pete, varttui köyhyydessä. Koska heidän äitinsä oli huumeriippuvuuden. Lancea kiusattiin usein hänen koulussa, koska hänellä oli nimi lance vance josta hän on edelleen erittäin herkkä. Kun hän työskentelee Ricardo Diazille hän valehtelee ja sanoo, että hänen nimensä on Quentin. Victor on aina kohdellut Lancea kuin pientä lasta ja sanoo että Lance saisi heidät molemmat ongelmiin, kuviot jatkuivat aikuiselämänsä.

Lance Vance alussa Vice City Storiesissa
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, sioittuu 2 vuotta ennen GTA Vice Cityn tapamtumia, Lance oli ensimmäinen jonka Victor Vance kertoi ylikonstaapelille. Hän kertoi että Pete on sairastanut astmaan, ja Lance on mielisairas.

GTA Vice Cityn alku animaatiossa, Lance lentää Victorin kanssa satamaaan kokaiinin kanssa Sonny Forellin miehet ampuvat Victorin. Lance, jää vielä helikopterin ja lentää pois vahingoittumattomana.
Lance tapaa Tommy Vercetin kun Tommy on tappanut Forelli gangsterin nimeltä Leo Tavi. Aikana sen jälkeen he kukistivat Ricardo Diazin joka oli niiden pomo joka myös petti heidät. Lance ärsyyntyy Tommyn asenteesta. Lopulta Tommy paljastaa että hänen vanha pomo on Sonny Forelli, ennen kuin Tommy tappaa heidät molemmat.
